The SpaceCraft is a not-for-profit community organisation reducing the risk of loneliness and social isolation in South London.

We bring local people together to craft a range of beautiful products, build social connections and celebrate skills. Profits from the sale of our products go towards sustaining and developing our work.

Our vision
Our vision is that The SpaceCraft provides creative opportunities for everyone to be able to feel included, valued and celebrated in their community.
The Background
Loneliness and social isolation are serious health hazards, and are closely linked to depression, self-neglect and mental illness. 
​
A fifth of the UK population privately admit they are always or often lonely:
24% of parents are always or often lonely (Action for Children); 
1 in 4 people will suffer potentially isolating mental health issues this year (Mind); 
1 in 3 elderly people aged over 75 say that feelings of loneliness are out of their control (Age UK);  
Half of disabled people will be lonely on any given day (Sense).

At The SpaceCraft we passionately believe that craft provides positive and effective ways to build self-esteem, connect people to others, and provide a sense of purpose – improving mental and social wellbeing. There is great pride in learning new skills and huge satisfaction in creating a finished product...even more so when you make that product for someone else to enjoy. 
How we're funded and where the money goes
We’re a social enterprise – a business that is committed to benefitting the community. Any profits we make are reinvested back into the business to fund and develop our work. We are grateful for the funding and support we have received from the National Lottery, London Community Foundation, Brixton Pound and Norwood Forum.
